Two-sentence explanation: Washington State University has recently started offering an Arabic class. Firstly I'd just to know the goals of the class. Also, since 2001, Americans are having more and more contact with Middle Eastern cultures and so I’d like to find out how this class intends to help this culture clash which is affecting Americans on both a local and international level.
Evidence: I’ve talked to the Arabic teacher- it’s a real course that hopes to educate people about culture and language. ‘Culture clashes’ include prejudices against Arabs here in the United States, Middle Eastern politics becoming a major part national politics, and things like the Arab Spring and invasion of Iraq; both of which have brought the U.S. and the Middle East into contact with each other.
Why now: The Arabic class has only recently begun.
Interviews: Manal Shaheen- Arabic teacher (already interviewed), Gabriela Gamez- foreign language teacher (already interviewed), Student from the class, Foreign exchange student from the Middle East, international student
